WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum announced on his Facebook page late tonight that the messaging app now has 800 million monthly active users. That is a 33% increase since last August. By the end of the year, WhatsApp could have 1 billion monthly active users. That is a very important benchmark for the app. After purchasing WhatsApp last year for more than $21 billion, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that he expects the acquisition to add to his company's bottom line once WhatsApp reaches 1 billion users.

Besides allowing users to send messages to each other, WhatsApp has now added voice calling to the Android version of the app. It soon will offer the same feature to iOS users and Windows Phone users as well.

A leaked image showing phrases that will be translated for WhatsApp's Windows Phone users in other countries has surfaced. With such actions as "Dialing, Incoming Calls, Answer, Ignore and Message," it is pretty apparent that Windows Phone users won't miss out on the ability to make and take voice calls using WhatsApp. And that is sure to make users of the platform feel good.
